A good idea born in Douglasville is bearing fruit around the nation.
Local pet sitter Debra Milton came up with the Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive last year.
Pet Sitters International (PSI) liked that idea so much, the professional organization adopted it this year.
Between Dec. 1 and Dec. 12, pet food can be donated at several Douglasville drop-off points: You may leave your donation at Envirocare Cleaners, 3869 Chapel Hill Road (corner of Central Church); Envirocare Cleaners, 4900 Stewarts Mill Road (corner of Chapel Hill); Janice Thompson’s State Farm Agency, 2090 Fairburn Road; and Banfield, The Pet Hospital, located in PetSmart, 2940 Chapel Hill Road.
Ms. Milton will distribute the donations to local pet shelters and rescue groups.
PSI is asking its members to organize similar pet food drives in their communities.
At the conclusion of the drive, participating members will report the total number of pounds of cat and dog food collected.
